PASOK: The details and the critical disagreement in the “spicy telefight” – 2024-09-19 04:52:31

The first meeting of EDEKAP with the representatives of the candidate leaders for the debate in PaSoK lasted two hours. The discussion was exploratory and ended a few minutes before 5:00 p.m., however, setting the stage for a telefight the likes of which we have never seen before in Greece.

Everyone agreed on the need for an open debate. At the same time, they welcomed the bold proposal made earlier by Nikos Androulakis, which sets new standards in a leading political dialogue process.

They also agreed on the day of the debate set for next Tuesday, September 24. However, the Androulakis and Doukas sides sharpened their swords in this case as well. With matters such as how open and free the dialogue between the candidates will be left open.

The captains of communication

Vangelis Tsogas represented Nikos Androulakis, Andriana Maggania represented Haris Doukas, Antonis Liaros represented Pavlos Geroulanos, Dimitris Lindzeris represented Anna Diamantopoulou, George Meleas represented Michalis Katrini and George Petkakis represented Nadia Giannakopoulou.

Stefania Mourelatou, who will carry out the communication with ERT, was also present in the dialogue room regarding the conditions, time and venue of the telefight, as well as the press representative Thanasis Glavinas.

The suggestions

According to information, the side of Nikos Androulakis proposed that there be the possibility three times during the debate for each candidate to have a two-minute direct dialogue with a different co-candidate. In addition, it was proposed that the following topics be discussed in the six thematic sections:

  • Economy, Social State, Regional Development
  • Foreign policy
  • Climate Change, Resilience
  • Institutions, State, Local Government
  • PASOK in the political environment
  • and a special section on the problems and challenges faced by the new generation.

The side of Haris Doukas came to the discussion on the conditions for holding the debate with specific proposals. These included the definition of five thematic units concerning the economy and the welfare state, foreign policy and defense, contemporary challenges (climate crisis), the state and institutions and PASOK. He also proposed at least three follow-up questions of the candidates to their co-candidates and with the possibility of an answer. All this as they claim “in order to have a direct dialogue in the standards of the successful debate format of last year’s municipal elections in Athens”.

The disagreement

The two sides initially disagreed on the directness of the dialogue. On the other hand, Androulakis proposed that the direct dialogue that will take place every time after the end of each section, with the option of a duel, has no rules. The only rule will be to complete within two minutes. The Androulakis side claimed through the representative of Vangelis Tsoga that “this can be achieved given that the whole process until now has been conducted in a regime of decency and political culture”.

According to information, the Duke side agreed to have three rights of intervention for different candidates with the crucial difference, however, that the face-to-face or otherwise the duel between the two candidates, is not completely free. To have the following rule, 30 seconds for the intervention-question and 30 seconds for the respondent’s answer.

The representatives of the candidate leaders left in a good mood and at the same time renewed their appointment for today at 14:30 in Harilaou Trikoupi.

Today at noon, the details of the “spicy phone fight” will be discussed again, as described by a first-class member of the PaSoK.

Today it is expected to be decided how free or how standardized this dialogue will be that everyone has agreed should take place.
