Rapper, producer and record label boss Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs (54), who was arrested on Monday, will remain in custody for the time being. The court in New York has granted the request of the prosecutors, who had requested that the artist not be released on bail. The risk of flight would be too great. The judge agreed.

According to the 14-page indictment, Combs turned his business empire into a criminal enterprise, with him and his business partners engaging in sexual exploitation and other crimes. The indictment alleges that Combs threatened women with firearms and repeatedly assaulted women beginning in 2009.

He is also said to have organised sex parties, where he forced women to have sex with male sex workers. These so-called freak offs would sometimes last for days and were recorded by the rapper.

The music mogul appeared in New York court yesterday and pleaded not guilty. If found guilty, Combs faces 15 years to life in prison, the AP reports.

Combs has been taken to a special unit at a Brooklyn jail, CNN reports, which is used, among other things, for inmates who need extra protection.

Many other famous people have stayed there before him. Among them are singer R. Kelly, former crypto boss Sam Bankman-Fried and Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of businessman and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
