The die has been cast for the debate between candidates for the presidency PASOK-KINAL. Tuesday, September 24, 2024, was set as the date for the debate between the “6” presidential candidates.
The representatives of the contenders for the presidency of PASOK reached an agreement in a meeting they had, in the context of the Committee on Ethics, Implementation of the Statute and Certification (EDEKAP).
The debate that will be held on ERT will take place in dialogue circles with thematic sections, while there will also be a direct dialogue between the candidates for the presidency of PASOK (Nikos Androulakis, Pavlos Geroulanos, Nadia Giannakopoulou, Anna Diamantopoulou, Haris Doukas and Michalis Katrinis). The rules in full development will be discussed at the next meeting.
It is worth pointing out that the President of PASOK-Movement of Change, Nikos Androulakis, who is running for re-election to the leadership, has proposed an open debate between the candidates for the leadership of PASOK, far from the models of telephone battles of parallel monologues.
It is characteristic that in his public intervention (Real FM-September 16, 2024) Nikos Androulakis pointed out the following:
“I believe that yesterday at the open Central Committee there was a very good climate of political dialogue. It seems that we do not imitate negative practices and behaviors. This is good and we must continue like this until the end. So, I want us to go one step further. I propose that the debate, which we have agreed to hold in the next few days together, should of course take place on public television and be for the first time an open debate and not a pre-recorded debate of parallel monologues, like the previous inter-party or intra-party debates. But the candidates should be able to speak freely, to ask each other so that an open democratic dialogue can take place.”
Several outstanding issues remain, after the agreement between the representatives of the presidential candidates to hold the debate on September 24 by ERT-1 with the participation of public television journalists. They concern the question of the topics of the debate and the way the direct dialogue between the presidential candidates will unfold.
During the September 16 debate between the representatives of the presidential candidates, on the conditions for holding the debate, the Duke side proposed, among other things:
-5 thematic units focusing on the economy and the welfare state, foreign policy and defense, contemporary challenges (climate crisis), the state and institutions as well as PASOK.
– at least 3 supplementary questions – interventions (follow up) of the candidates to their co-candidates and the possibility of answering, for a direct dialogue “according to the standards of the successful format of the debate of last year’s municipal elections in Athens”.
The side of Nikos Androulakis, in the debate, proposed that there be the possibility 3 times during the debate for each candidate to have a direct dialogue of two minutes with a different co-candidate.
In addition, it was proposed that the debate should have 6 thematic sections with the following topics:
– Economy, Social State, Regional Development
-Foreign policy
-Climate Change, Resilience
-Institutions, State, Local Government
– PASOK in the political environment
-and a special section on the problems and challenges faced by the new generation.
These will be discussed to make decisions at a future meeting.
