Irene Aldana was disfigured after the fight with Norma Dumont
The images of the impressive cut on the forehead went around the world. The disfigured face is that of the Mexican martial arts fighter Irene Aldana. The one who gave her the strong blows was the Brazilian Norma Dumont. The bloody fight took place last Saturday at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event on the UFC 306 card in Las Vegas. The videos spread like wildfire on social media and generated great concern at the beginning, although later they provoked admiration towards the Aztec fighter for her bravery in the octagon.
It all happened during the second round of the fight when a clash of heads between the two contenders caused a deep cut on Aldana’s forehead. The injury quickly became problematic, with deep bleeding covering much of her face. Of course, this significantly influenced the development of the fight. Commentator Jon Anik, present at the event, described the wound as “a horrible cut, like a slot machine, on the forehead.”
The cut on her forehead was really shocking and the wound was left completely open. Meanwhile, Aldana, who did not stop fighting, continued to lose blood. Then, she received a cut on her nose and a blow to her right cheekbone. Seconds later, another cut was added above her eyebrow, which caused the fighter to need at least eight stitches on her face.
This is how Irene Aldana looked after Norma Dumont’s beating
Despite the severity of the injury and the medical team’s efforts to stem the bleeding between rounds, the fight continued for the 15 minutes required. Dumont, aware of her opponent’s vulnerability, began attacking the wound more frequently, further complicating the situation for Aldana. At the end of the fight, Dumont was declared the winner by unanimous decision, while the Mexican retired with a bloodied face and in urgent need of medical attention.
Aldana’s medical team, led by Dr. Greg Hsu, immediately proceeded to treat the wound, which was closed. Hsu, who also took to social media to express his admiration for the fighter, noted the complexity of the treatment: “What a strong and brave human being. Good luck in healing!”
The magnitude of the injury has led many fans and pundits to compare it to some of the most severe cuts in UFC history. On social media, especially on platforms like X (that’s Twitter), the images flooded the feed with comments both of concern and appreciation for Aldana’s strength. One follower commented that it was “definitely the worst cut in UFC history.”
Irene Aldana showed the recovery on her face
Despite the loss and severe injury, Aldana has maintained a positive attitude and has been grateful for the support she has received. In addition, she showed her good humor in a video where she is seen putting makeup on the affected area, with the phrase “rather dead than simple” in an Instagram story with a short video. On said social network, she made a post in which she wrote: “Another day at the office… It was incredible to be part of this UFC Night event. I am doing very well. Thank you all for your support and love. I am recovering and ready for the next one.”
While Dumont’s victory allows her to extend her winning streak to five fights and cement herself as a serious title contender in the bantamweight division, while post-fight attention has focused primarily on Aldana’s injury, the match has highlighted the fighting ability and determination of both athletes. It is not known at this time if Irene Aldana will need further surgery, but doctors are confident that the wounds will heal properly.
