According to the Bielsko-Biała City Hall, “As a result of heavy rainfall, a landslide occurred on Jana Sobieskiego Street, between Szklana and Kupiecka Streets. The services secured the area and are preparing to remove the earth lying on the roadway“.
“The road on this section is impassable – as of 2:00 p.m. In connection with this, the Municipal Road Authority has prepared a detour along adjacent streets. As a result of the landslide, a power pole was damaged – this requires Tauron to turn off the power. Telecommunication networks will also be turned off. The services are making every effort to restore power to nearby buildings this afternoon.” – added the officials. Due to the situation, there are difficulties in the operation of buses on line 24 – from the Stare Bielsko Kościół stop, buses run along Zapłocie Duże Street, bypassing a section of Jana Sobieskiego Street. There were also problems on another line – number 50 – buses ran only on the route Os. Karpackie – Czechowice-Dz. Legionów Junacka Kamionka.

It became very dangerous around 4:00 in the area of Plac Ratuszowy. The condition of the Biała riverbed near the city hall was very worrying. The water was getting dangerously close to its banks. Many residents watched the situation with concern, which began to stabilize only before 5:00. If the river had burst its bed in this place, the city center would have been flooded. Fortunately, this was avoided, although it really was close at times.
At 4:00 on Bestwińska Street, the area of the intersection with Za Kuźnią Street – the Kromperek stream overflowed its banks and flooded several properties. The city president, Jarosław Klimaszewski, at around 4:30 answered several questions related to the flooding.

On Saturday (14.09) the storms spared Bielsko-Biała and most of the rain “went sideways”. As reported by Łowcy Burz Podbeskidzie, “than Boris for Podbeskidzie is very mild for now. Night convective precipitation has passed our region from the north, another portion of rain is closer but also passes us. It is already raining intensively in Goczałkowice, Pszczyna and Kończyce Małe and this whole zone is moving to the south-west and west“.
In Mikuszowice the height record of the Biała River was broken – it was 261 cm! The previous record was recorded in 1970 and was 257 cm.
Eight units of the Fire Department from Żywiec County were dispatched to help with the removal of the flood effects. The city of Bielsko-Biała suffered and there is no doubt about it. However, looking at what happened in the neighboring Commune of Czechowice-Dziedzice, we can assume that it was not like that. You can find a report from these areas on our second portal czecho.pl
