A major police operation is underway in Germany after a powerful explosion in the ring around the historic center of Cologne.
According to the Kölner Anzeige, the police have cordoned off the area and, in an announcement to “X”, are calling on citizens to avoid it. There is still no further information on the explosion.
“The Hohenzollernring is closed between Rudolfplatz and Friesenplatz. The area should be avoided. More details are not yet known,” the authorities’ statement reads.

The police operation was underway on the Hohenzollernring ring road.
The area has been cordoned off, while pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles should avoid crossing. Police are not releasing any further information about what may have caused the explosion at this time.
