Team BDS won the final three maps to defeat G2 Stride 4-2 in the grand finals and win the Rocket League Championship Series World Championship on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the victory, BDS pocketed $300,000 and G2 $150,000.
The win comes less than three weeks after BDS won the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. G2 came into the event having won the second RLC major in June and finishing second at the first major in March.
G2 opened the championship match with a 5-0 win over Mannfield (night). BDS responded with a 1-0 overtime win at DFH Stadium to tie the match. G2 retook the lead with a 1-0 win at DFH Stadium, at which point BDS called a timeout.
From there it was all BDS, as the team won 4-1 at Utopia Coliseum (Dusk), 5-2 at AquaDome (Salty Shallows), and 3-2 at Neo Tokyo.
The road to the grand finals was anything but easy for G2, who played their way to the end in their other two matches on Sunday to reach the championship match. In the lower bracket quarterfinals, G2 defeated Furia 4-3 to advance to the semifinals, and then defeated Karmine Corp 4-3 to reach the finals.
On the other side of the bracket, Team Falcons defeated Oxygen Esports 4-2 in the lower bracket quarterfinals and then fell to BDS 4-3 in the semifinals. In that match, BDS won the first three maps, but Falcons avoided elimination three times to tie 3-3. BDS outlasted Falcons 2-1 on Champions Field to win the match.
