Stade. Stade is celebrating Stade Cabbage Day for the fourth time on Saturday, September 21st – and this year it will be particularly maritime: freshly harvested cabbage and other vegetables from Dithmarschen will be transported to Stade by sea on the historic freight barge “Frieda”. From 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the ship will offer the fresh goods for sale on deck – perfect for anyone who appreciates regional products and wants to enjoy fresh vegetables straight from the field.
Stade Cabbage Day: Tradition and regionality
When the water level rises on Friday, September 20th, the Frieda sets off from Stade’s city harbor to ship fresh cabbage and vegetables from Europe’s largest growing area in Dithmarschen. The freshly harvested vegetables are brought to Stade from the Glückstadt loading port. On Saturday, from 7:30 a.m., visitors can purchase the goods on the city’s quayside near the crane directly from the deck of the Frieda. Johannes Kammann OHG, a regional wholesale company, sells various types of cabbage and other vegetables at a preferential price.
Anyone who gets hungry immediately at the sight of the fresh cabbage can fortify themselves at the “Hafenkante” snack bar, where delicious cabbage rolls are on offer. Stade Cabbage Day is supported by STADE Marketing and Tourism GmbH, and the event ends at 1:00 p.m.
With the Frieda to Glückstadt – An experience for explorers
As early as Friday, September 20, adventure seekers have the opportunity to board the Frieda themselves. From 7:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., the historic ship sails from Stade to Glückstadt and back. Anyone who wants to can help load the ship and experience the experience first hand. Tickets are available for EUR 50.00 per person at the tourist information office at the harbor or online.
