Berlin. To deal with the corona pandemic, former Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) is proposing the formation of a Bundestag commission of inquiry.
Spahn told the “Rheinische Post” (Monday edition): “The establishment of an inquiry commission made up of experts and politicians seems sensible to me. Because we have to learn the right lessons in order to be better prepared in the future.” Spahn added: “I did what I thought was necessary back then. And I stand by that.”
In spring 2020, there was a lack of everything. “Masks, disinfectants, ventilators, medicines, vaccines. And in this shortage situation, we managed to have more of everything than we needed.” This did cost a lot of money. But Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) also used this principle to buy gas worldwide during the 2022 energy crisis. “In retrospect, it will probably turn out that he bought far too much and at too high a price. I will not criticize Habeck for this,” said the Union’s deputy parliamentary group leader.
At the same time, Spahn said: “To this day, a large, silent majority of Germans agree with our actions during the pandemic.”
