Missing mother and baby, the two bodies found embracing on a small island in the Piave

Susanna Recchia, the woman who disappeared from Miane (Treviso) on Friday evening, is said to have been swept away by the Piave River, taking her three-year-old daughter with her. This was learned from sources that reported that the two bodies were found embracing on a small island downstream from the Vidor bridge (Treviso) where the woman’s car was found. According to the reconstruction by law enforcement, the woman entered the Piave, not by throwing herself from the bridge, but by sliding, already on Friday evening, from a river bank where the last traces were found by molecular dogs. Then the watercourse dragged the bodies onto the small island about a kilometer downstream. The Treviso prosecutor Barbara Sabbatini is investigating the incident and will decide in the next few hours whether or not to proceed with autopsies. Susanna, a dental hygienist by profession, had three children from a previous relationship in addition to her three-year-old daughter. Neighbors describe her as a very reserved woman with very few friends. Even from the story of her ex-partner, the child’s father, it emerges that she had never behaved in a way that would have led one to think about what happened later. The police, Civil Protection volunteers and the Fire Department are operating on site. A helicopter, nautical firefighter teams, drones and molecular dogs are being used, among other things.

On Friday evening, Susanna had sent a message to her ex-partner saying to come around 8 on Saturday to pick up the child. The woman had 12 hours to leave her home in Miane, with the little girl, aboard her white Volkswagen Tiguan. In the house she left a five-page letter in which she expressed her discomfort and the desire to end it all. It was her ex who saw the papers in the morning, when he found neither the woman nor her daughter. The Conegliano Police were immediately notified and the search for a person was subsequently alerted via a note from the Prefecture of Treviso. Yesterday evening, the car was found in a parking lot in Covolo di Pederobba (Treviso), near the Vidor bridge that crosses the Piave River where the bodies were found downstream, on a small island not far from the Isola dei Morti in the municipality of Moriago della Battaglia. The last to see the woman alive were her neighbors.
