Orlando Méndez and his new platform in Capitanes

A former player on the Mexican national team, Orlando Mendez announced as the new general manager of the G-League Captains team, where he will be responsible for building the roster for the 2024 season.

Orlando finished his 14-year professional career with the Capitanes de la G Leaguea center with which he also competed in the LNBP and the American Champions League Basketball. Now he will start his time as manager of the capital team.

Orlando was an assistant Nick Lagios – who is now the General Manager of Diablos Rojos del México in the LNBP- during the 2023 season, so the Capitanes managers chose to continue the project and “promote” to Orlando.

Orlando said his goal is to bring the CDMX Captains to the team playoffs of the G-League, because in the previous four seasons they fought until the last moments, but they have not achieved such.

So far no players have been announced for the 2024-2025 season, although the first additions are expected in the coming weeks to begin preseason work.

Nuño Pérez, the president of the team, expressed the reasons for appointing Orlando to this position: “Orlando Méndez brings a vital strategic perspective to Capitanes, we share their commitment to building a strong and competitive team. We are very happy that Orlando is taking a step forward and that his story will be another success story in our commitment to talent development at Capitanes“.

The Capitanes will play their first game of the game Tip-Off Competition visiting the Birmingham Squadron on Nov. 9 in Alabama. The first home game will be on November 24th at 6pm central Mexico time, against the Vipers of Rio Grande Valley.
