Undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated films this year is “The Intern” with Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump and Maria Bakalova as Ivana, his first wife.
The biographical drama was already presented in May at the Cannes Film Festival and caused a real sensation.
The story traces the early years of the former US president’s career, even as he entered the real estate business. This happened in the 70s and 80s when he was married to Ivana Trump. The film unscrupulously shows the pursuit and lust for money and power, reveals betrayals and a rape scene.
After the screening of “The Intern” in Cannes, there was also a reaction from representatives of Donald Trump. The film’s team was threatened with legal action and an attempt was even made to stop the further distribution of the film in cinemas.
Stephen Cheng, a campaign spokesman for now-re-electionist Trump, called the film “blatantly false” and called it “garbage” and “pure fiction with sensational lies that have long been debunked.”
In response to the attacks, director Ali Abbasi calmly responded that he didn’t think the film would necessarily appeal to Donald Trump.
And even invited him personally to meet and show him the film. Well, while that apparently never happened and the presidential candidate probably didn’t see the movie for himself, at least we can now see the first official trailer.
The footage shows us a young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan) as an “intern” for infamous lawyer Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong). The latter years later defended Trump on charges of violating the law known in the US as the Fair Housing Act.
Without Roy Cohn, however, Donald Trump would hardly be the Donald Trump we know today. The lawyer’s rules of success become his “bible.”
“The first rule is: Attack, attack, attack,” he says in the trailer. And he continues: “Rule two: Admit nothing, deny everything.” Rule Three: No matter what happens, claim victory and never admit defeat…. You have to be ready for anything and anyone to win.”
The director of “The Intern” is Ali Abbasi, and the screenwriter is the journalist Gabriel Sherman.
Sebastian Stan, Maria Bakalova and Jeremy Strong, who are in the main roles, will also partner with Martin Donovan (as Fred Trump – the father of Donald Trump) and Joe Ping (as mob boss Anthony Salerno).
“The Intern” opens in theaters in the United States from October 11, but it is not yet known if and when it will premiere in our country.
