(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 14 – “The nightmare is always present and it still hurts to think about it: all four of us were lucid when it happened and all four of us experienced it firsthand. The ball of fire, the bang, the noise, the whistle that I still don’t know what it could have been.” This is how Paolo Origliasso, the father of little Laura who died on September 16 last year following the crash of a Frecce Tricolori fighter plane, remembers the terrible accident that occurred a year ago along a provincial road in San Francesco al Campo, not far from Turin Caselle airport where the aerobatic team was performing an exercise. A piece of the fighter plane broke off in the fall and ended up against the car where the 5-year-old girl was traveling, with her 12-year-old brother, her mother Veronica Vernetto and her father Paolo who fought through the flames of the overturned car to save the lives of his children. The little girl remained stuck in her car seat and every effort was in vain. The son suffered burns to 30% of his body, the mother was also hospitalized, the father himself burned his arms doing everything possible to extract Laura. “At that moment, anyone would have done this thing”, says Paolo Origliasso interviewed this evening by Tg1. “The worst thing about this story – he continues – is not knowing who to get angry with”, the first expert report did not in fact clarify what caused the fighter to lose altitude, whether a flock of birds or a malfunction or human error. The prosecutor’s office has ordered a new expert report, the pilot is the only suspect. Veronica Vernetto, Laura’s mother, also interviewed by Tg1, says that shedding light on what happened “certainly” would help “to find some peace for ourselves, after only a year we miss her like air, in any situation of our day, in everyday life”, and “we owe it to her”. “Yes, it would be a way to answer some of these whys, to give meaning and justice to that little girl who is no longer here”, adds Paolo Origliasso who has never walked that road again, where suddenly a fireball took away the life of little Laura.
