Autumn is here, cold viruses are booming again. This of course also applies to corona infections.
According to the RKI weekly report, more known corona cases were recorded between August 27 and September 2 than in the previous week. “Activity in recent weeks has been at a higher level than usual at this time of year,” it also says. Nationwide, 4.6 million people currently have an acute respiratory disease – often caused by corona or rhinoviruses. The number is likely to rise. But is that cause for concern?
The number of cases is also increasing in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). This is currently reported by the “Westfälische Anzeiger”. The virus has also been detected in greater quantities in wastewater. 13 of the 17 sewage treatment plants that recently submitted data to the NRW state center have measured a slight or even sharp increase in the coronavirus load in the wastewater.
But more than that: The newspaper even asks whether the government in North Rhine-Westphalia is now resorting to measures from the Corona period in view of the increasing number of cases.
Would it be possible to make wearing masks compulsory again in NRW?
A representative of the Westphalian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians told the “Rheinische Post” that the population’s interest in corona vaccinations had increased again.
Is there now a threat of a mask requirement again in North Rhine-Westphalia? “There is currently no obligation to wear a mask in North Rhine-Westphalia,” emphasizes the NRW Ministry of Health.
But: “In practices, clinics and care facilities, there may be mask rules at the discretion of the local facilities. In accordance with their house rules, they can impose an obligation to wear masks if necessary.” However, this option is not a new one; the possibility exists at any time.
