PHOENIX (AP) — Rhys Hoskins hit a two-run homer, Freddy Peralta pitched five effective innings and the Milwaukee Brewers extended their lead atop the NL Central by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Friday night.
Hoskins hit his 24th homer of the season off Eduardo Rodriguez (2-3) in the fourth inning. Five Milwaukee pitchers shut out the majors’ top hitter.
Peralta (11-8) allowed one run and six hits, while Devin Williams pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 12th save in 13 opportunities.
The Brewers extended their lead atop the NL Central to 10 games after the Chicago Cubs fell 9-5 to the Colorado Rockies.
Arizona was held to six hits to be tied by the San Diego Padres for the first wild-card spot in the NL playoffs. The Diamondbacks remain five games behind Los Angeles in the Western Conference.
The Dodgers fell 6-2 to the Atlanta Braves.
