In this film, a co-production with Fábula, Amara acts in English, although for the first time in her career her character is Chilean, but she speaks in that language to understand the main characters of the film, a mother and her Korean daughter.
The young girl is in a coma and her mother travels from Seoul, South Korea, to Canada to take care of her daughter who was in Winnipeg, Canada. There she meets the character of Amara, a friend of the injured girl, who becomes her voice.

Speaking to ADN, Amara said that “in this international film I think I have the character closest to me, you know, that I have ever done, because no one asks me to be anything else. It’s as if I were Chilean and we accept it in this world. And that in a country where I think we are still working to diversify and see more representation on the screen. “I think it’s something very innovative.”.

For example, Collider gave the film a 7 out of 10, summing up that “although the film sometimes resorts too much to tropes, The Mother and the Bear ultimately emerges as a comedic and lighthearted journey of a woman going through a phase of self-discovery in her 50s.”
