With a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis as a child and have always loved reading the great stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them, enjoy my passion to the fullest and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.
Winner at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz suffered a terrible disappointment in the final of the Olympic Games. The Spaniard, who has put in a lot of effort in recent months, completely missed his American tour with an opening defeat in Cincinnati and an incredible crash in the second round of the US Open. Many blame this physical fatigue, but also an emotional side that sometimes makes him overflow, and which could end up costing him dearly…
Last year, Carlos Alcaraz had already had a very lively summer, with a first victory at Wimbledon facing Novak Djokovic, before a very frustrating defeat at Cincinnati. The Spaniard then had a very complicated end to the season, as if he was exhausted by the efforts made. The same scenario could occur in 2024, since the world number 3 seems to have trouble managing all his emotions. This could be detrimental to him against a Jannik Sinner impassive lately.

An obvious fatigue for Alcaraz
It’s not that uncommon to see a player struggling to finish his seasons. Eaten away by fatigue, Carlos Alcaraz will try to raise his head after a US Open completely missed. Sometimes during the competition he struggled in some matches, having cramps. “He put everything on the table, mentally, emotionally, physically and tennis-wise, to win, because it meant a lot. And when it means that much to you, emotionally, it’s exhausting. He was exhausted, mentally exhausted. He’s very, very emotional. We’ve seen him cramp up a few times.” noted Patrick Mouratoglou on his account Instagram.
Alcaraz must change its schedule
Carlos Alcaraz is only 21, but some tough decisions may already need to be made about his schedule, as have Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal et Novak Djokovic at some point in their career. “If you look at Roger, Rafa and Novak, have you seen them cramp up once in a game? In their whole career? He’s cramped up many times, just at 20 years old. He’s an emotional player. So I think knowing that, in the future they’ll have to think about a schedule where he gets enough rest – mental rest, not physical rest – mental rest. I think that’s very important for his future.” continues the French coach Patrick Mouratoglou. A message that the Spaniard will surely not take into account for the moment, he who has several exhibitions scheduled in the coming months…
