16th edition of the Multiple Myeloma Walk this Sunday in Sainte-Julie

Multiple myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer, yet this disease remains relatively unknown, even though the number of Canadians affected by it is constantly increasing. In order to raise awareness of this disease, people are invited to participate in the 16th edition of the Sainte-Julie Multiple Myeloma Walk, which will be held on Sunday, September 15 at 10 a.m., at the Grand-Coteau High School.

Martine Elias, President and CEO of Myeloma Canada, recalled in a press release that the funds raised during this 5 km walk will be used to finance research to help improve the length and quality of life of people with myeloma, in the hope of one day curing this incurable disease.

This year, the spokesperson for the event in Sainte-Julie is Christian Lacroix, from Candiac. “I have always said that life is a long march with its pitfalls and its good sides. We can’t go back. I accept what happens to me. I focus on the positive every day, rain or shine. Now my march of life: I have a stone in my shoe. The stone is myeloma. Some days the stone doesn’t hurt too much. I can’t remove the stone; I keep going anyway,” he testified.

Event organizers Lyzane Bissonnette and Danny Wade reminded everyone that red will be the color of the day, while coffee, water, juices and snacks will be offered free of charge on site. You can bring your dog, as long as it is on a leash.

The goal of the Sainte-Julie walk is $30,000 this year and, nationally, it is $875,000. For more information, visit the website:
