‘Cabo Gil’, a key player in the Ayotzinapa case, is re-arrested

Mexico City. In an inter-institutional operation, the federal government arrested Gildardo López Astudillo, Cape Gil-one of the regional leaders of the Guerrero Unidos Cartel in Iguala in September 2014 – identified as one of those primarily responsible for the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students. Cape Gil He was re-arrested with two arrest warrants, one for organized crime and another related to the Ayotzinapa case.

Three years ago, López Astudillo became a collaborating witness for the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Iguala Case, but his testimony did not lead to positive results in locating the students who disappeared on September 27, 2014.

In March of this year, the Cape Gil He filed an amparo suit to avoid his re-arrest, since in December 2019 he was released by a federal judge because he was allegedly subjected to acts of torture in the Iguala case investigation between 2014 and 2015.

According to information from the federal government, the Cape Gil He was arrested last night and placed at the disposal of ministerial authorities.

The national arrest registry indicates that he was arrested yesterday and that he is being transferred, but the place of capture is not specified.
