After Rafael Nadal’s withdrawalinitially entered in Team Europe for the Laver Cup 2024, it is Grigor Dimitrov who has been selected to play in the exhibition tournament, organized in Berlin (Germany) this year (from September 20 to 22).
Second participation for Dimitrov
The Bulgarian, ranked tenth in the world, joins Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the European selection. Dimitrov will thus participate in his second Laver Cup, after having played and won it in 2018, alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in particular.

At 33, Grigor Dimitrov is having a mixed 2024 season. He had retired in the quarter-finals at the US Open, against the American Frances Tiafoe, after a first retirement at Wimbledon in the round of 16 against Daniil Medvedev. At Roland-Garros, he lost in the quarter-finals against the Italian Jannik Sinner.
On the other hand, for Rafael Nadal, this new withdrawal does not dampen the speculation surrounding the announcement of his end of career. Before him, Roger Federer had said goodbye to tennis at the Laver Cup in 2022, after a final doubles match with… Rafael Nadal.
