  • An employee of an adventure pool in the Bern area embezzled 400 francs during a fundraising campaign.

  • She was sentenced to a fine of 800 francs for embezzlement and must pay a total of 1,300 francs.

  • Both the accused and the injured party no longer work for the company.

Everyone knows it: Money is pooled together in the company to give a colleague a present for his birthday or as a farewell gift. In doing so, it is usually trusted that the donated amounts will actually be used for the intended purpose. A penal order against a 47-year-old woman from Bern shows that a minimum level of control can sometimes do no harm.

Between January and April 2024, the woman carried out a fundraising campaign among the employees of an adventure pool in the Bern area (cash and Twint). The primary goal: to collect as much money as possible for a sick colleague. At the end of May, the initiator presented the management with an amount of 300 francs.

Unconditional fine

But after the collection was complete, she told the employees that a total of 700 francs had been collected. It was therefore clear that 400 francs went into her own pocket. In addition, according to the penalty order, she took 60 of the 200 francs from a tip pot.

The Bern-Mittelland public prosecutor’s office sentenced the woman to an unconditional fine of 800 francs for embezzlement. She must also pay fees totaling 1,300 francs.

When asked, the water park did not want to comment on the incident; it was a private feud between the two women that had nothing to do with the company per se. One thing is clear: both the accused and the injured party no longer work at the pool.
