Euromillions: This Frenchman missed a jackpot of almost 150 million euros… by one number

It came down to one number: a Frenchman narrowly missed out on the EuroMillions jackpot of 149 million euros, won last Friday by a European player.

Although he had found the five correct numbers: 12, 14, 34, 41 and 47, he only found one of the two star numbers, which were 3 and 4… and therefore came within a hair’s breadth of the jackpot on Friday, September 6.

But, this Frenchman can console himself: he was still lucky, since he had a 1 in 6,991,908 chance of finding this combination… He is therefore one of the four winners of rank 2 of this draw, along with three other people, who pocket the nice sum of €257,427.90. Moreover, if the jackpot did not fall in France, many other French people won smaller sums.

One million euros in France

The jackpot of 149 million euros was won in Belgium. This is the third highest in the history of the Euromillions in Belgium. In October 2016, a lucky winner won 168 million euros, and in June 2017, a jackpot of 153 million euros was won by a Belgian.

But, during this draw, a Frenchman also became a millionaire thanks to his My Million code. The lucky winner had the code GS 272 9213. Indeed, each time you validate a EuroMillions grid, you are automatically and randomly assigned a My Million code. Twice a week, during the draws, one of these codes is drawn and a person who played wins 1 million euros in France.
