That’s 330 more than last year. This is the first semester for 1,681 people: The “Alma Mater” registered 1,681 Bachelor entries, 51 more than last year, as the university announced on Thursday. The University of Basel expects the total number of students and doctoral students to rise to more than 13,000 by the end of the year. The final figures will not be published by the Office for Federal Statistics until December. There are still students and doctoral students who are enrolled but not yet enrolled, who will be added then. Enrollments at master’s level have also increased significantly compared to the previous year. With 486 entries from students from Swiss and foreign universities, the number of entries from last December (451) was exceeded as stated in the publication. The subjects of psychology, economics and law are particularly popular among first-year students. Biology and pharmaceutical sciences have large numbers of beginners, as the university writes. History, English, sociology and political science have a strong interest in the humanities and social sciences.
