Austrian government ‘hides’ the state of Moctezuma’s headdress: Gutiérrez Müller

For the writer Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, the Austrian government is “hiding something” about the possible state of Moctezuma’s headdress.

The piece, which is being claimed by Mexico, has been on display for several years at the Ethnological Museum in Vienna.

Present at President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning press conference this Wednesday, his partner and wife – who headed the efforts to try to have the historic plume sent to our country for the bicentennial of the consummation of Independence – expressed her suspicions about the state in which it would be found and that this could be due to the “rude” response given to her transfer to Mexican territory.

“The Austrian government is hiding something with the headdress. I don’t know if it has been replaced or broken. They should answer for that because of the rudeness they did to the Mexican government when it requested it through me,” said the president’s wife.

Participating in the presidential conference for the first time, he admitted that the failed attempt left him with a bad experience, particularly because the objective was not achieved.

“The taste in our mouths is bitter, but we have to make the effort. Sometimes the requests, wishes or actions we make in favor of something we want to achieve are not achieved and that bitter taste remains.”

However, he stressed that optimism about recovering the historic pre-Hispanic piece should not be lost.

“What remains is the hope of requesting it again. Hopefully, in the future, other managers will have more success with the Austrian government in this matter.”

On the other hand, Gutiérrez Müller assured that he will not seek public office in the next administration of Claudia Sheinbaum, to whom he wished success as the future president of the country.
