In this setting, experiences about innovation and good practices in the internationalization of Continuing Education were shared.
The University of La Frontera hosted the monthly meeting of the University’s Continuing Education Network, where successful experiences in innovation and good practices in internationalization were shared. The event brought together more than 28 participants, in person, from eight higher education institutions. In addition, the hybrid mode allowed to expand participation, reaching a total of 50 attendees, in its different modes.
Jorge Cancino Becerra, assistant director of Continuing Education of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Chile and president of the Executive Committee of the University Continuing Education Network explained that “this meeting is part of the annual activity of the University Network. of Continuing Education, where we meet once a month around a specific topic and at a host university, traveling throughout Chile. In each session the host university, together with the network’s executive committee, will propose a topic. In this case, the UFRO was interested in talking about internationalization and we really liked the idea of the subject, because we had never talked about it.”
In addition to these lines, Pablo Andrade Contreras, the leader of the Department of Continuing Educationindicated that “internationalization in continuing education is one of the strategic lines that we have proposed as a department. Researching and learning about new experiences from other institutions that are part of the university’s continuing education network, in a collaborative way, is extremely important to us and guides us to continue in this process .”
INTERPRETATION
The Internationalization Directorate from the University of La Frontera, also involved in this activity, presenting on this topic. Janina Hanswillemenke, coordinator of International Cooperation, said “this is a new place for Continuing Education and for our management, a connection with them is very relevant and modern, because we have not been increasing this offer but for a short time from the international. I think the importance of connecting international actors to this area is something that could really have an impact and we hope that these courses will be linked to local challenges in the future, that projects will be created and have a long-term impact.”
This event marked an important milestone for the University of La Frontera, holding such an activity for the first time, as well as reinforcing the importance of internationalization in this matter. The participants highlighted the need to continue creating spaces for communication. The next big challenge for this network is the Continuing Education Conference XII, which will be held on November 28 and 29 at the University of Concepción, where topics such as social commitment, quality and sustainability in continuing education will be addressed.
