An out-of-control wildfire forced the evacuation of thousands of people in Southern California on Sunday, after the size of the affected area doubled overnight to 17,549 acres.
By morning, entire towns including Running Springs and Arrowbear Lake, with a total population of more than 6,000, had been ordered evacuated.
The fire started last Thursday, September 5, in San Bernardino County, but has gained strength as the days have passed.
The California Fire Department said on its website Sunday that three of its members were injured.
In total, 628 people have been assigned to extinguish the fire.
There are 35,405 threatened structures, including homes and commercial buildings, but none damaged, and the causes are still being investigated. Vegetation is said to be excessively dry due to high temperatures.
