Things aren’t going well for former Earth & Fire singer Jerney Kaagman (77). In March 2022, her husband passed away Bert Ruiter (the band’s bassist) from the effects of esophageal cancer. He was her support and confidant for years, especially after Jerney was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. There will be a tribute for the band soon, but Jerney is said to be too ill to attend.

Just like with Rob de Nijs has the disease firmly in its grip on Jerney. The Telegraph reports that she is now being cared for almost all day at home in Blaricum. She is receiving medication to slow the decline, although her condition has worsened in recent years. For the time being, according to her friends, Jerney hopes to be able to continue living independently in her home.
Tribute
A fan club of Earth & Fire will soon be organizing a meeting. Unfortunately, Jerney will not be able to attend due to her poor health. However, she will try to attend the meeting via video conference.
During the tribute, a professional camera crew will film the day, so that Jerney can watch it later. The fan day will be completely dedicated to the band. Here, Jerney’s belongings, such as clothes she wore in television programs, will be auctioned to raise money for ParkinsonNL.
The movie
“To ensure that this goes as smoothly as possible, she has nursing staff in her home 24 hours a day,” she says. Ronald Platierthe founder of the fan club Telegraph.
“No, Jerney will unfortunately not be present on this special day. She is too ill, tires quickly and does not always have clear moments. According to her medical supervisors, it would be better if she watches at home via a video connection. A professional camera crew will be there that day, so that we can also offer the images to Jerney later.”
The singer would be happy with that. “I have indeed thrown a number of self-compiled video tapes of Earth & Fire over the hedge in Blaricum. I heard from her nurses later that Jerney enjoyed it immensely and that she even sang along to some fragments. Look, that’s what I do it for. That’s why I also founded this fan club five months ago.”
