Today, Sony has prepared a special conference dedicated to the PS5 console. During it, the company presented a new version with the Pro suffix. As the name suggests, the model in question is to offer higher performance than the standard PS5. So what are the differences between the aforementioned consoles?
Appearance and construction
Let’s start with the look of the PS5 Pro. According to leaks the console received three black stripes on the side of the casing. However, it is still unknown what their purpose is. The version with an optical drive was not presented during the conference. However, shortly after the premiere, the manufacturer posted photos showing its installation, so users will be able to choose whether they prefer to have a drive or not.

Surprisingly, the dimensions of the PS5 Pro haven’t changed much from its predecessors. The console is expected to be the same height and width as the standard PlayStation 5. The company also announced that the PS5 Pro will be compatible with all accessories available for the basic model. This may encourage people who only want to replace their existing console with a more powerful version to buy it.

Specification
The most important changes, however, concern the specification. Sony has decided to use a larger processor and a more powerful graphics card. However, it has not been specified exactly what chips these will be, although in the case of the GPU, a well-known leaker stated that it may be a model corresponding to the RX 7700 XT. However, we know for sure that the graphics card will have 67% more computing units. According to the assurances of the Japanese giant, thanks to this we can count on 45% faster rendering, which will translate into smoother gameplay. The company has not forgotten about Ray Tracing either. The console will receive its more advanced version. Sony has also revealed that the PS5 Pro will have 28% faster memory than the standard model.

Gaming Performance
The performance of the new console was also presented during the presentation. According to the Japanese giant, the PS5 Pro is to offer 60 fps while maintaining high quality graphics. This applies to all titles, even AAA ones, including Horizon Forbidden West. In the case of the standard model, players could choose between Fidelity Mode, which focuses on graphics and limits frames to 30, and Performance mode, which increases fluidity at the cost of lower image quality. Promotional materials also indicate that in some titles, players can expect up to 120 frames per second. Below you can see a comparison of graphics on both consoles.

Technology
Sony has also provided support for Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling (PSSR) image scaling technology. Unfortunately, it is not known how it may work in practice. Usually, players have several different types of image scaling available, which may focus on better graphics or fluidity. So it is possible that the same will be the case with PS5 Pro. Although the name of the technology indicated that it will use AI, it will mainly rely on machine learning.
