First a ballroom, then a cinema, now a drugstore: The Weiße Hirsch in Dresden is changing
Opposite the Dresden Park Hotel, Dresden’s high society once lived there. From Thursday onwards, you can shop in the historic building.

Dresden. Marie-Luise Götze has less than ten minutes to finish her coffee. Workmen ask her for keys and what small damage to the walls still needs to be touched up with paint. The 33-year-old has an answer to everything, always with a smile on her face. She looks around the spacious halls of the new DM branch that she manages and points to the listed ceiling. People used to dance in the ballroom of the former Kurhaus hotel, later – from 1938 – the residents of Weißer Hirsch watched films here in the cinema, before the Delizia restaurant moved in after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now the beautiful premises have been converted into a branch of the DM drugstore. This Thursday it opens at 8 a.m.
