Both have been conquering the Polish music scene for several decades. Izabela Trojanowska and Małgorzata Ostrowska told Dzień Dobry TVN about the beginnings of their careers. What did the backstage of show business look like in the past? Where did the artists get their original outfits for concerts?

Izabela Trojanowska began her career in the early 1970s. She made her debut at one of the famous festivals, and after her performance a devastating review appeared in “Przekrój”.
– On the one hand, the performance was not assessed well by the editor, but on the other hand, I received the first prize for this debut. (…) I, of course, was very devastated. My father collected “Przekróje” and this one with a bad review of my performance was added to his collection, so I was very sad – said the artist.
Both Trojanowska and Ostrowska were absolute style icons and colorful birds during the Polish People’s Republic. Where did they get their spectacular costumes?
– I sewed clothes, I even sewed shoes, because I inherited a mini shoemaker’s workshop from my grandfather. I inherited a cast iron last with the size of my foot. I sewed leather jackets because there was nothing. Iza knows perfectly well that getting a stage outfit was a challenge back then – said Małgorzata.
– I have manual skills and I used them – added Izabela. – In college I sewed on the floor. I cut the material and sewed in my hand, I didn’t have a machine. Later, professionally, I was lucky enough to go to the West once or twice, and on sale I bought costumes by Thierry Mugler, whom I love to this day. He also dressed Lady Gaga, the singer pointed out.

Dorota Wellman, in a conversation with Izabela Trojanowska, referred to her famous performance at the festival in Opole, when she sang the song “Everything I Want Today”.
– There was a social scandal related to this song, because you yourself didn’t know that you were singing about orgasm, right? – said the presenter of Dzień Dobry TVN.
– Well, yes, and today even one of the cosmetic companies named their blusher that way. So today it’s not a taboo subject. Definitely not – the singer replied.
– But you did make this moral revolution, or revolution, – Wellman continued.
– Well, it happened – said Izabela.
