The Bridge Fire in the Angeles National Forest continues to burn out of control in San Gabriel Canyon

Angeles National Forest, Calif. (KABC) — The Bridge Fire in the Angeles National Forest continued to explode rapidly Tuesday, charring more than 34,000 acres since it broke out Sunday, officials said.

The wildfire was reported around 2:40 p.m. Sunday in the area near East Fork Road in San Gabriel Canyon. During a news conference Tuesday afternoon, authorities said the blaze spread north and east.

“Our biggest concern, obviously, is the community of the town of Mount Baldy, the Foothill communities from Claremont to Azusa, and the residents who live on the East Fork,” said John Miller of the U.S. Forest Service.

As the fire burns out of control, several evacuation orders have been issued and several roads have been closed.

Evacuation orders:

– Areas south of Angeles Crest Highway near Big Pines and Wrightwood.
– Mt. Baldy Village north of San Antonio Dam to Mt. Baldy Resort.
– The East Fork communities of Camp Williams Resort (including cafe, mobile home park and campground) and the adjacent River Community.

Evacuation Warnings

– San Antonio Heights and Upland from the foothills south to the 210 have been placed under evacuation warning.
– Areas north of Angeles Crest Highway near Largo Vista.
– Areas of the Angeles National Forest east of San Gabriel Reservoir and Morris Reservoir.

Road closures:

– San Gabriel Canyon and the East Fork of the San Gabriel River remain closed to all forest visitors.
– Highway 39
– East Fork Road
– Glendora Ridge Road
– Glendora Mountain Road
– Mt. Baldy Road at the intersection of Shinn Road

Air quality in the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire due to the fire and the nearby Line Fire was rated as “unhealthy.” Residents were asked to stay indoors or wear a mask when outdoors.
