The result of extensive collective thinking carried out by its teams, the Scientific program 2024-2029 of the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec identifies the main emerging or growing public health issues. This look at the future is crucial for decision-makers, public health authorities, civil society partners and the Quebec population.
Anticipating tomorrow’s challenges
For a centre of expertise and reference like the INSPQ, it is essential to have a framework and conditions that allow us to anticipate the challenges of tomorrow, to document their progress and to study promising avenues of action to limit their negative effects on the health of the population, or even to derive benefits from them.
In its program, the Institute identifies seven major trends likely to have significant effects on the health of the population:
- The progression of social and economic disparities;
- The aging of the population;
- Immigration and demographic diversification;
- Climate change;
- The increase in the frequency and magnitude of health threats and emergencies;
- Social changes associated with digital transformation;
- The evolution of the world of work.
Seven major trends and fifteen key themes for public health
Better monitoring, better understanding, better action
Public health cannot escape the major scientific and technical movements and trends of all kinds that characterize today’s world. The consequences of climate change, the opioid overdose crisis or the emergence of monkeypox are some recent examples of the many public health issues that will continue to occupy a prominent place in daily life.
Every day, a new problem, a new question, a new incident requires the attention of the INSPQ’s experts. The Scientific Program leverages the complementarity of its multiple areas of expertise, which constitute its strength. With the complicity of its partners, the INSPQ wishes to concretize these orientations and priorities in its programming for the coming years.
