PBA: Rain or Shine recovers and defeats Phoenix

MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine crushed Phoenix, 122-107, to earn a rebound victory in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Tuesday night.

The ElastoPainters got double-digit scores from eight players to bounce back from a painful opening loss to San Miguel and improve to 5-1 in Group B of the exhibition.

Import Aaron Fuller and Adrian Nocum combined for 32 points, while Gian Mamuyac was also key in a late fourth-quarter tiebreaker at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium to deny the Gas Masters what could have been a breakthrough victory after six games.

Fuller and Nocum each had double-doubles, with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. Mamuyac finished with 14 points.

Rain or Shine is targeting Justin Brownlee and Barangay Ginebra, a team they beat in the first round of the import-heavy conference. The two teams will meet on Sept. 13.

Phoenix, for its part, hopes to end its drought against San Miguel also this coming Friday.
