PNC officers and journalist die while transporting former COSAVI manager – 2024-09-10 08:30:19

An accident involving a UH-1H helicopter, which was transporting the former manager of COSAVI from Honduras, ended the lives of the director of the PNC and a journalist from Channel 10. The Salvadoran Armed Forces confirmed the death of all the people on board the helicopter, which crashed in Pasaquina, La Unión. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
Among the deceased are the general director of the PNC, Mauricio Arriaza Chicas; the deputy director of Specialized Operational Areas, Commissioner Douglas Omar García Funes; the deputy director of investigations, Commissioner Rómulo Pompilio Romero Torres; and the prominent member of the Specialized Police Tactical Unit “Jaguares”, Corporal Abel Antonio Arévalo.
Channel 10 journalist David Cruz also passed away.
The other deceased were identified as Lieutenant Alexis Alberto Quijano López, Lieutenant Jonathan Alexander Raymundo Morán, Sergeant Gerson Ricardo Batres Lucero. The death of the former manager of COSAVI, Manuel Alberto Coto Barrientos, was also confirmed.
The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, reacted to the incident and assured that the respective investigations will be carried out, for which he also said that he will request foreign help.
