Harvey Weinstein: Rushed from prison to hospital for heart surgery – 2024-09-10 01:56:56

The former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was rushed from a New York prison to a hospital today to undergo emergency heart surgery, ABC News reported, citing unnamed sources.

Weinstein, 72, is expected to appear in court this week, where prosecutors will present evidence to a New York grand jury as they try to secure a new sex-crimes indictment against him, ABC reported.

Weinstein, who has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone, was found guilty of rape charges in February 2020. The New York Court of Appeals overturned the conviction in April, ruling that Weinstein did not have a fair trial because a judge allowed irregularly the testimony of defendants who were not formally charged with assault.

Weinstein suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in the heart and lungs, and recently contracted COVID and double pneumonia, according to a statement from Weinstein’s representatives to ABC.

A spokesman for Weinstein did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
