(ANSA) – ROME, 09 SEPTEMBER – “That man on the phone was incredibly clever at gaining my trust and passing himself off as a professional banker, without betraying any accent.” The story was told in an interview published in the Roman pages of Il Messaggero by singer-songwriter David Riondino, who was deceived on the phone by a fake operator from Nexi, the digital payment service company. “He had a trained voice and refined language,” he said. “He was referring to specific computer mechanisms. He convinced me that I had ended up at the center of an attack by online scammers and that only by following his instructions could I stop them. Be careful, it could happen – and does happen – to anyone.” “No one is completely stupid and I’m not saying I’m a genius, but,” he continued, “that man was impeccable in some ways.” Then the singer-songwriter says: “In quick succession that man made me enter the codes to make 23 transfers of 495 euros in series, plus 1.61 in commission; I thought I was blocking the hacker, but only later did I realize that I had paid money into three different accounts in the name of three different women”. In the past, Riondino had also been a victim of Gianfranco Lande, the Madoff of Parioli. “Yes – he says – unfortunately. I was advised by other celebrities who had been his clients to invest with him”. (ANSA).
