Los Angeles., Kendrick Lamar will headline the NFL’s showpiece moment next year: The Grammy winner will host the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, sponsored by Apple Music.
The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced Sunday that Lamar will headline the event at Caesars Superdome on Feb. 9. The 17-time Grammy-winning rap megastar has indicated he wants to showcase hip-hop at the NFL championship game, where he will perform as a guest artist with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg in 2022.
“Rap is the genre that has had the most impact,” Lamar said in a statement. “And I will be here to remind the world of that. They picked the right guy.”
Lamar has been a successful star since the release of his first album, “Good Kid, MAAd City,” in 2012. In addition to his 17 Grammys, he became the first musician other than classical or jazz to win a Pulitzer Prize for “DAMN,” an album he released in 2017.
“Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” the rapper’s most recent album, came out in 2022. He appeared on the song “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin, which spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 this year. It also spawned the hit “Not Like Us.”
