Torrential rains leave 4 dead and 14 missing in Morocco

(ANSA) – MARRAKECH, 08 SEPTEMBER – Four dead and 14 missing is the death toll from torrential rains that hit the provinces in southeastern Morocco and in particular around Tata, the rural department of the Agadir region. Numerous homes collapsed due to the force of the water and, according to witnesses, the missing were swept away by the current. The areas of Ouarzazate and Tingherir were also hit, where rain fell continuously from Friday evening until late afternoon today. Only a part of the main communication routes have been restored. Many tourists, surprised by the bad weather in the bivouacs around Erg Chebbi, the highest dune in the Sahara, near Merzouga, were left stranded. The images of the torrent of water that made its way through the tracks where dromedaries usually graze are shocking. There are about ten Italian tourists who are in the area and who, in constant contact with the Italian embassy in Rabat, are waiting for the waters to recede to resume their journey. No injuries among them, only disappointment and surprise for these tropical storms that they did not expect to find during their vacation. (ANSA).
