President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a bill designating the week of September 15 as “National Hispanic Heritage Week.”
It wasn’t until 20 years later that Hispanic Heritage Week became Hispanic Heritage Month under President Ronald Reagan.
In fact, the celebration became official after Public Law 100-402 was enacted on August 17, 1988.

The Latin American Festival is Charlotte’s most popular celebration.

- International Festival at UNC Charlotte

It is one of Charlotte’s longest-running festivals, organized by UNC Charlotte’s Office of International Programs.

There will also be food for sale, raffles, games and activities for the whole family.

- Celebrating Afro-Latin culture
Date: Wednesday, September 25
The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts in collaboration with La Casa de la Cultura invites the community to learn about and celebrate Afro-Latino heritage and culture.
This, with workshops for making crafts, live performances, discussion on African influences in Latin art and traditions and much more.

The Puente Hispano invites you to enjoy the Concord International Festival, a universal mosaic of countries and cultures.

- Celebrate Latin culture at the Charlotte Museum of History

This is a free community event organized by the Fiestas Patrias organization and the Charlotte Museum of History.
