Britain: Cat returned home four days after being “cremated”. – 2024-09-08 18:13:00

An unprecedented incident happened to the owner of a cat in Great Britain, after her pet, having apparently been cremated, returned home four days later.

Knight, from Newby, North Yorkshire, UK, was on holiday in Turkey when her neighbors informed her that her cat, Ted, had drowned in their swimming pool. She arranged for the cat to be cremated in Thornaby but four days after the ceremony, Ted… returned to their home.

“I had to break the news to my husband and our four children and we were all absolutely devastated, because Ted is a huge personality and a much-loved member of the family,” Knight told the BBC. The woman arranged for the cat to be cremated at Heavenly Pets Crematorium which undertook to collect the body and cremate it.

So everyone thought he had been cremated. But four days after the cremation, Knight – who was still in Turkey on holiday – saw she had several missed calls from the woman she had assigned to look after her cat. “I was at the hotel pool when he told me that Ted had just come through the special opening of the door. I didn’t believe it at first,” he said. “I had to FaceTime her to see that Ted was really alive.”

Knight soon realized she had paid £130 to cremate someone else’s cat. When he later went to collect the ashes, he saw that the urn was marked “Not Dead Ted”. Vicky Kralan, director of Heavenly Pets Crematorium, told the BBC it was a “bittersweet story” and she was worried a family out there “is looking for someone”.
