The first day of the Eccellenza championship ends with a defeat for Ebolitana, beaten at home by Castel San Giorgio 1-0. At the “Dirceu” the home team, led by mister Ciro De Cesare, a former player on duty, were unable to find the way to goal, leaving space for the visiting team, which was able to capitalize on the only real opportunity of the match.
The match opens with both teams rather cautious and intent on studying each other. The first noteworthy opportunity arrives only in the 21st minute, when Tedesco attempts a dangerous diagonal shot from 25 meters, which however ends up wide. Ebolitana tries to respond at the end of the first half with Evacuo, but even in this case the action does not produce concrete effects. At the end of the first half, Cimmino becomes dangerous for Castel San Giorgio, but his shot flies over the crossbar. The first half ends without goals and without minutes of recovery, leaving an impression of balance between the two teams.
The second half started on the same lines as the first, with a game lacking in excitement. In the 9th minute Cassata tried to break the deadlock with a shot from the edge of the area, but his conclusion also ended up high over the crossbar. The best chance for Ebolitana came in the 23rd, when a header from Tedesco served the new entry Di Giacomo, who however sent it high from a favorable position, wasting a golden opportunity.
Three minutes later, Santonicola came close to scoring for the home team with a powerful long-range shot that grazed the crossbar. However, Castel San Giorgio took the lead in the 27th minute, thanks to Longo, who was able to put the ball into the net from the center of the area, after a defensive lapse by Ebolitana.
In the final minutes, despite the Azzurri’s attempts to rebalance the score, the guests managed to defend their precious advantage with order and compactness. Castel San Giorgio thus took home a fundamental away victory, while Ebolitana will have to reflect on the wasted opportunities.
At the end of the match, a moment of discussion between De Cesare’s team and the fans, with the intention of starting again immediately after this setback and finding greater concreteness in the next challenges.
