Mexico CitySome attendees at the sixth government report considered that Andrés Manuel López Obrador will be remembered as one of the best presidents in the country, because he reduced poverty, allocated resources to infrastructure and implemented welfare programs, including the pension for senior citizens, for people with disabilities, as well as Youth Building the Future, ‘Benito Juárez’ scholarships, The School is Ours.
Víctor Manuel Sánchez Mercado is 32 years old and together with his family they moved from the city of Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico to the Zócalo square in the capital to listen to the latest report from the federal executive.
“This is the last government report and we want to say goodbye to him. My family and I have come here on other occasions to support him. This presidential term was very different from all the previous ones. I grew up in a country where we were made to believe that Mexico was not going to progress, that there were no reasons for it to move forward. At school we were made to believe that culture, when in reality we have a lot of culture and we are a better country than others. Everything that López Obrador has done has been very important, especially for young people; he supported everyone from children to older adults.”
“He has also shown that megaprojects can be done with Mexican labor. He is going to be one of the most important presidents of Mexico. He built the Mayan Train, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, which I have already visited, and he continued with the subway. He is undoubtedly a great example for Mexicans. Thank you very much, President, for what you have done for the country, for opening our eyes, for the culture you have taught us, to make us feel proud of our country, and thank you very much for your daily work. It has been very, very important for us because he made us love and believe in our country, in ourselves, that we can do anything against any country. Long live the present, López Obrador!”
For Juan Martín Nava Dávila, from the Iztacalco mayor’s office, he also came to say goodbye to President López Obrador. “He is the only person in the current era of this country who has radically transformed the country for the benefit of all citizens.”
But not only that, he said he expects President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to continue with the development of infrastructure and social programs. “There are still many projects to build and continue moving forward in order to improve the conditions of the country and especially of the population.”
She added that having a president like López Obrador “is the most incredible thing that has happened to this country and we would not want him to leave. The president has a great job to do, giving continuity to the transformative principles of what is the Fourth Transformation.”
Alejandro Goytia Serrano, 72, took a photo with the cardboard image of the Mexican president placed on 16 de Septiembre Street. Excited, he said: “My president is really cool, really cool. I wish all the previous thieves had worked half as hard as he did. I hope Claudia Sheinbaum follows that path.” “Long live the president. May he continue to be so cool. May he not let any bastard, not even the United States, take his leave.”
