Mexico City. Diana Flores, captain of the Mexican women’s flag football team, said that despite regretting not having won the gold medal at the recent World Championship in the specialty, which took place in Finland, after losing to the United States in the final, her team is “very motivated and excited” for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where their sport is included in the official program.
“We are left with a bittersweet taste, but we are very happy and proud of the work we did throughout the tournament.
“The result (silver medal) does not change our objective, which is to continue taking Mexico to the top and, why not?, seek a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games,” said the quarterback.
After their participation in the World Cup, the Mexican men’s and women’s football teams arrived at the capital’s airport on Saturday, where they were warmly received by family members and dozens of fans with cheers, applause and songs.
For his part, Alonso Gaxiola, a member of the men’s team, said that the defeat against Switzerland, where they missed out on the bronze medal, “will serve as a lesson on the road to one of our main objectives, which is an Olympic medal.”
