Cinemas in Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca will broadcast the opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ live from London on Tuesday

MURCIA, 8 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Three towns in the Region of Murcia will host the broadcast of The Marriage of Figaro, live from the Royal Opera House in London. The ingenious work can be enjoyed next Tuesday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m. (peninsular time).

The theatres of Murcia (Cinemas Centrofama), Cartagena (Cinemas Mandarache) and Lorca (Acec Almenara) will be showing, via satellite from London’s Covent Garden, this excellent production by the British opera and theatre director David McVicar. It will also be shown in more than 100 cinemas in Spain, and more than 1,300 in 43 countries.

Chinese soprano Ying Fang makes her Royal Opera debut as Susanna, alongside former Jette Parker artist Jacquelyn Stucker as the Countess. Conductor Julia Jones leads a largely international cast, which also includes Luca Micheletti as Figaro, Huw Montague Rendall as Count Almaviva, with Ginger Costa-Jackson also making her Royal Opera debut as Cherubino.

Mozart’s beloved score is instantly recognizable, from Figaro’s wry farewell to Cherubino in ‘Non più andrai’ (You shall go no more), to Cherubino’s love-struck aria to the Countess, ‘Voi che sapete’ (You who know what love is).

‘The Marriage of Figaro’ sparkles with humanity and wit, making it an enduring classic. Paule Constable’s lighting and Tanya McCallin’s set design bring to life the drama of one day in a chaotic household.

The Count of Almaviva lives with his Countess in a mansion near Seville. The Count has become infatuated with Susanna, his wife’s servant, who is about to marry Figaro, the Count’s servant. Figaro is horrified to learn that the Count plans to seduce Susanna on the night of the wedding.

Meanwhile, Cherubino, the Count’s young page, has fallen in love with the Countess, but has been dismissed after being discovered with Barbarina, the daughter of the gardener Antonio. Figaro decides to prevent the Count from seducing his future wife and to do so he enlists the help of the Countess, Susanna and Cherubino, who disguises himself as a woman.

This leads to a series of misunderstandings, blunders and frustrated plans involving all the inhabitants of the mansion as each tries to get what they want (and who they want).

Ten extraordinary productions for the new season The Royal Opera and the Royal Ballet open their 2024/2025 film season with this broadcast, bringing the excitement of first-class theatre to cinema screens around the world, including in Murcia. A programme with beloved classics such as ‘Cinderella’, ‘The Nutcracker’ and ‘The Marriage of Figaro’, as well as two new opera productions: ‘The Tales of Hoffmann’, and ‘Die Walküre’.
