Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in Baden-Württemberg

Stuttgart (dap/lsw) – After the sunny weather of the past few days, thunderstorms and rain will move across Baden-Württemberg on Sunday. Meteorologists from the German Weather Service (DWD) are forecasting an increased risk of severe weather in Upper Swabia this evening: It could rain heavily for hours. In isolated cases, up to 80 litres of rain per square metre cannot be ruled out, they said.

Dense clouds are expected in the west of the country as early as the morning. In the afternoon, the clouds will then move further west. There, there may be more thunderstorms and heavy rain. Stormy gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour are also forecast for the Black Forest overnight.

Compared to the past few days, temperatures will drop in the coming days. The DWD expects maximum temperatures of up to 19 degrees in the Upper Black Forest and up to 26 degrees in the Taubergrund on Sunday. At the start of the week, maximum temperatures of up to 21 degrees are expected.

Warning of heavy rain in the region

For the districts of Tübingen, Reutlingen and Zollernalbkreis, meteorologists are warning of isolated heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain of up to 40 litres per square metre in a short space of time from the afternoon onwards. This could be followed by showers, some of which may be thunderstorms. In some areas there is also a risk of heavy rain with amounts of 35 to 60 litres per square metre, and isolated and localised extremely heavy rain with amounts of around 70 litres. After midnight it should then subside quickly.
