Nablus, West BankAn American woman was shot dead in the West Bank on Friday, two doctors told The Associated Press.
Ward Basalat, an emergency room physician at the hospital, said the 26-year-old woman was shot in the head and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Palestinian witnesses and media reported that Israeli troops shot the woman as she attended a pro-Palestinian demonstration against settlement expansion in the northern West Bank.
The Israeli military has not commented on the shooting.
Dr. Fouad Naffa, director of the hospital, also confirmed the death of an American citizen.
The woman is believed to have been shot while taking part in a protest against settlement expansion in the Palestinian town of Beita, north of Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Protests occur regularly and have previously turned violent. A month ago, US citizen Amado Sison said he was shot in the leg by Israeli forces as he tried to flee tear gas and gunfire.
