The President of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, visited the workers’ residences of Yiannouli Larissa at noon on Friday.
In a post on social media, he reported what he heard from the citizens, a year after the devastating floods of Daniel, and he says characteristically: “The staff scumbag and the painless government should come here and talk to the residents. Let them come and feel a little shame.”
The post of Stefanos Kasselakis
Today in Larissa, one year after Daniel, after the disaster.
“My sister is missing.”
“The state is nowhere to be seen.”
“All efforts are made by us.”
“A moral satisfaction I want.”
This and much more I hear from our fellow citizens, in the workers’ housing.

The visit
Stefanos Kasselakis spoke to the citizens and was informed about the situation in the area, one year after the devastating floods. All the citizens uttered a cry of anguish, because of the many and intense problems they were facing. Furthermore, they described to the President of SYRIZA-PS the feeling of abandonment they experience, as the Mitsotakis government not only has not carried out any work, but even refuses to meet with them.
They suffocated us and left us helpless, as if we were garbage, said a resident of the area. Also, as they characteristically said, many of the houses in the area have not been cleaned yet, a year after the disaster, while the cleanings that have been carried out have been done, for the most part, at the expense and labor of the residents of the area themselves.
After the discussion with the citizens, Stefanos Kasselakis stated the following:
I sympathize personally and we as the official opposition of the country sympathize with the residents here in the workhouses, who are not allowed to be seen by the rulers of the country, who do not respond to their requests to come and talk to them.
I invite Kyriakos Mitsotakis to come here, without a huge police escort and MAT this time. To come here and listen to these residents. The indignation is very great and it is completely justified. And it is not possible to experience such stress, such pain, a year later. I met a resident who lost her sister to fungus because of improper cleaning. People out of their pride and their savings have cleaned up what they can.
Reparations are not enough. Not many compensations have been paid. The damages are enormous. Time has frozen for the people here. And this is due not only to the climate crisis, which, let me remind you, is not domestic, the climate crisis is not only Greek. That there is a lack of infrastructure, that is Greek. But it is also due to the complete inadequacy of the staff state. Here there are buildings that belong to the former OAED and there is no one competent to maintain them so that they can even generate rent. We are talking about the definition of a staff scumbag and the definition of a callous government and a prime minister without empathy.
So, they should come here, listen to the residents and provide solutions. To do their job: they are paid by the Greek people to come here, not to go out on the canals and preach. To come here, talk to the residents and solve their problems. A year has passed. That’s enough!
