COVID cases rise to 81

CIUDAD VICTORIA, TAMAULIPAS.- So far this year, 81 cases of COVID-19 and 17 deaths have been confirmed in Tamaulipas. However, public health specialists are warning the population to prevent risks, as the seasonal season is approaching.

For his part, the head of Epidemiology of the Tamaulipas Health Secretariat (SST) mentioned in an interview that the city of Reynosa reports 33 cases and 9 deaths, being the locality with the most registered cases.

Sergio Uriegas Camargo added that the city of Tampico is in second place with 10 cases, while Ciudad Madero has 9; Victoria, 5; and El Mante and Matamoros have 4 cases each.

The rest of the municipalities with one case are: Nuevo Laredo, Miguel Alemán, Casas, Jiménez, Jaumave and Río Bravo.

Uriegas acknowledged that the figures could vary, as the perception of the disease and the fact that the risks are lower have caused many people with symptoms not to get tested for COVID-19. “They only have flu symptoms and are treated that way because they do not go to a doctor,” he said.

He added that the majority of the population has already received two or more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, which has helped reduce mortality from this disease.

In a tally of figures since the beginning of the pandemic, he reported that 189,145 positive cases have been recorded, of which 180,748 patients have managed to recover, while 8,212 people have lost their lives.

Regarding influenza cases, he reported that there are 34 confirmed by laboratory, of which 16 are in Reynosa and 10 in Ciudad Madero. The rest were registered in San Fernando, Victoria, Matamoros, Jiménez and El Mante.
