The group of 87 of SYRIZA has been meeting for many hours now.
According to information from documentonews.gr, the decision has actually been made to submit a motion of censure against Stefanos Kasselakis to tomorrow’s Central Committee, if he does not accept the prompts to initiate the proceedings of his own accord.
Also, the 87 are preparing an extremely harsh text of political criticism.
For several days now, the executives of the so-called internal party opposition have been publicly calling on the president of SYRIZA to take the initiative and set up polls, but it seems that Stefanos Kasselakis is not picking up the gauntlet.
It is recalled that at the Political Secretariat on Thursday, Stefanos Kasselakis stated that a possible censure proposal would injure the party and its members. 87 executives stressed after the meeting that this position contradicted his previous challenges to dissenters. The president of SYRIZA, both through social media and through television appearances, had said that anyone who disagrees with him can express it institutionally in the KE.
With possible questioning from Polakis’s side, it now remains to be seen the dynamics of the proposal. In the event that the Cretan MP also submits a motion of censure, it is not excluded that the two motions be combined and an “alliance” be created between the two sides, only during the voting.
The process
The statute states that in order to pass a motion of censure by the KE, it must gather 50%+1 vote of the number of its members. This means that at least 148 votes must be gathered, since the Organization consists of 295 members. Of course, some believe that only those present should be counted. In case it is decided that the first is valid, those absent from the meeting will vote by telephone.
Also, some believe that a ballot box should be set up and a secret vote should be held, while others say that the statute explicitly defines roll call and open voting. Certainly, there will be disagreement about the process, but we will know more in the morning.
