/ world today news/ The National Assembly adopted in the second reading the changes proposed by the ombudsman Maya Manolova in the Civil Procedure Code, which exclude consumer disputes from the scope of arbitration courts, as well as the drop in legal fees by nearly 6 times.
“I want to thank the MPs for not succumbing to corporate pressure, for doing something good for the citizens,” she said at a briefing in parliament.
The ombudsman especially thanked the members of the legal commission and personally its chairman, Danail Kirilov, because they kept their word and did everything possible to make the law a fact. The Public Defender stressed that the adopted texts mandate the immediate termination of all pending proceedings because their examination by private arbitration becomes inadmissible.
“All arbitration cases that have been filed so far, which will be filed in the coming days, are inadmissible. They must be stopped. That’s why every new message goes in the trash,” Manolova said categorically.
In her words, this is a “historic success for the 11-year history of the ombudsman institution”, which she described as a victory for citizens against monopolies, collectors and private arbitration courts.
